MAVENCO continues to strengthen its commitment to youth development as it embraces new strategies through a collaborative strategic planning initiative with the National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO), along with the presence of the Department of Education (DepEd), Aflatoun International, and selected partner cooperatives.

 

The event was held in Privato Hotel, Quezon City last June 18-19,2025. This significant gathering served as a platform to align goals, share best practices, and reinforce the role of cooperatives in promoting financial literacy among young Filipinos and integrate it to the curriculum in the Department of Education.

 

It was an honor for the cooperatives specially us MAVENCO to receive the full support of the Department of Education, whose representatives actively participated in the discussions and listened to the impact of the program on the education system. Participating cooperatives presented their programs and services, highlighting how these initiatives have contributed to developing students’ savings habits and financial awareness. Through these reports, DepEd recognized the growing need to institutionalize financial literacy in Philippine schools and acknowledged the vital role of cooperatives in shaping responsible and financially literate learners. The department expressed appreciation for cooperatives best practices, particularly in effectively teaching children the value of saving at an early age.

 

This strategic plan is a collaborative effort that calls for immediate implementation to further improve the lives of young Filipinos and help build a better and more financially responsible nation. As a concrete outcome of the meeting, the Department of Education committed to supporting the integration of the Aflatoun Program in the curriculum, ensuring that financial education becomes a sustainable and integral part of the learning experience for students across the country.
